Here is the short version of the new system in CS2

You use five Covert skins red rarity
All five must be either regular or all StatTrak no mixing in one contract
If all five are regular Covert you get either a regular knife or regular gloves from the case pools you used
If all five are StatTrak Covert you get a StatTrak knife only gloves do not exist as StatTrak
The game first chooses a case collection based on your inputs then rolls a Gold item from that case knife or gloves depending on the case

So your inputs do two things

Decide which knife or glove families are even possible
Decide your odds by how many skins you use from each case

If you put five coverts from a single knife case that only has one knife family you are basically locked into that family.

You can walk any reader through this section quickly

Open CS2 and go to your Inventory
Right click any Covert skin and choose the Trade Up Contract option
Add five Covert skins of the same type either all regular or all StatTrak

Float is still huge with these contracts. Every CS2 skin has a float between zero and one that controls its wear from Factory New to Battle Scarred and that float also drives price.

With knife and glove contracts the game roughly normalizes the float of each input inside its own range then averages them and maps that into the knife or glove float range.

In practice this means

Use low float Covert inputs if you want a real chance at Factory New or Minimal Wear knives or gloves
Do not pay extra for super low float skins that cannot actually roll that low in the outcome range
For budget gamblers you can ignore float and just treat it as pure entertainment

How odds work when you turn five coverts into a Gold item

The odds look scary at first but the logic is simple.

Share of inputs decides the chance for each case
- Example three coverts from Dreams and Nightmares and two from Spectrum gives you a three fifth chance to roll the Dreams and Nightmares Gold pool and two fifth for Spectrum
Inside that case pool the game then rolls randomly between all Gold items
- If that case only has knives you are guaranteed a knife
- If that case has knife and gloves then it can roll either

You cannot aim for a specific pattern or exact finish but you can aim for a knife family or glove series by choosing the right coverts.
