The ENC CS2 tournament will bring something Counter-Strike rarely gets at the highest level: national teams.
Instead of Vitality, Spirit, NAVI or FaZe representing their organizations, players will compete under their country or territory’s flag. The CS2 event runs from November 10 to 15, 2026, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with 24 teams and a $1.32 million prize pool.
All 24 spots have now been claimed, meaning the Esports Nations Cup is no longer just an announced future event. The field is set, national rosters are taking shape, and fans can finally start comparing which countries have the strongest Counter-Strike talent.

The overall Esports Nations Cup takes place from November 2 to 29 across multiple games. CS2 receives its own six-day competition window near the middle of the event.

That mix is one of the most interesting parts of ENC. Established Counter-Strike countries such as Denmark, France and Brazil will share the stage with nations that rarely receive spots at major international CS2 events.

How ENC CS2 Qualification Worked
Unlike several other ENC games, CS2 did not award direct invitations to the main tournament. Every country had to qualify.
Eligibility for the opening national and territorial stage was based mainly on the Valve Ranking System. A country’s score combined the VRS points of its five highest-ranked eligible players.
When fewer than 96 countries appeared in the VRS ranking, ENC used FACEIT Elo as a secondary method. That calculation added together the Elo of the top 40 active players from each remaining country.
The national qualifiers ran from July 6 to 16, followed by regional qualifiers beginning on July 17. By July 22, the official ENC tracker showed all 24 of 24 CS2 positions claimed.

National Teams Will Not Simply Copy Club Rosters
The ENC has an important restriction: a national roster cannot include more than three players from the same VRS-ranked club team.
That rule prevents a country from simply sending an existing professional lineup under a different name. Even when one organization has several players from the same country, the national coach may need to combine players from different teams.
This creates a completely different challenge.
A roster may look incredible on paper but still struggle with communication, role overlap or limited practice time. An in-game leader might have to call for teammates who normally play under different systems. Star riflers may also be asked to take less comfortable positions.
ENC CS2 will therefore test more than individual skill. It will test how quickly players can build structure and chemistry outside their usual club environments.
ENC CS2 Tournament Format
The 24 teams will be divided into four groups of six. Each group uses a round-robin, best-of-one format, and the top 16 teams advance.
The playoffs then switch to a single-elimination bracket:
- Playoff series are best-of-three.
- Losing a series means immediate elimination.
- The Grand Final is played as a best-of-five.
The short group matches leave little room for slow starts. One poor veto or pistol round can have a major effect on the standings, while the best-of-three playoffs should provide a more complete test of each national roster.

What ENC Means for Competitive CS2
The biggest difference is the identity behind each match.
Club rivalries matter to dedicated Counter-Strike fans, but national rivalries are easier for casual viewers to understand. Someone who does not follow the professional circuit every week can still support Canada, Brazil, France or Australia.
ENC may also give lesser-known players an opportunity to perform in front of a much larger audience. A strong showing against an established CS2 country could quickly raise a player’s profile, especially when scouts and organizations are already watching international tournaments.
The event also creates matchups that normal club competition cannot produce. Players who are teammates during the regular season may face each other for their countries, while usual rivals may suddenly have to play together.
That does not mean ENC will replace the CS2 Major schedule or the traditional club circuit. It offers a different type of competition one built around nationality, temporary lineups and international pride.
Can ENC Become the CS2 World Cup?
It is too early to call ENC the Counter-Strike World Cup, but that is clearly the type of space it wants to occupy.
The Esports Nations Cup is planned as a recurring event held every two years. For the concept to last, the first CS2 edition needs competitive rosters, strong viewership and enough cooperation from professional clubs to release their players.
The foundation is there. CS2 has decades of history, recognizable national rivalries and strong talent across several continents. Now the event has to prove that those ingredients can produce a tournament fans care about beyond its prize pool.

ENC CS2 is not another standard tournament added to an already busy calendar.
The national-team format creates new lineups, new rivalries and opportunities for countries that are rarely represented at the biggest Counter-Strike events. With 24 teams, no direct invitations and every place earned through qualifiers, the first edition already has a clear competitive identity.
Whether it becomes a permanent highlight of the CS2 calendar will depend on what happens in Riyadh this November. But for six days, club logos will take a back seat and Counter-Strike players will compete for their countries.
