Counter Strike 2 at EWC 26 has reached the playoffs. After five days of group stage action in Paris, only 16 of the original 32 teams are still fighting for the $2 million prize pool and the EWC 2026 title.
The playoff bracket is already set, and it produced one huge storyline immediately: Vitality, Falcons and Spirit are all on the same side of the bracket. That means only one of those three favorites can reach the Grand Final.

The tournament began with four groups of eight teams. The top four teams from each group have now advanced into a single elimination playoff bracket.

Every match is now do or die. The playoffs use a single elimination format, with best of three matches leading up to a best of five Grand Final.
That makes the draw especially brutal for the bottom half. Falcons face defending EWC champions The MongolZ immediately, while Vitality have to get through FaZe and Spirit begin against B8.
The EWC Group Stage Had Some Big Surprises
The playoff bracket does not look quite how most people would have predicted before EWC started.
B8 beat Vitality to secure their playoff spot, while FUT defeated MOUZ to advance. GamerLegion also came through their group, and magic survived a close series against 9z to reach the final 16.
Spirit also had a much harder road than expected. They eventually secured their playoff place with a 2 to 1 victory over BIG, but their group stage was far from dominant.
Those upsets are a big reason why the playoff bracket became so unbalanced.
Who Are the Favorites to Win EWC 2026?
There are still several teams with a legitimate shot.
Falcons have m0NESY, NiKo and kyousuke and entered EWC as one of the strongest teams in the world.
Vitality still have ZywOo, while Spirit have donk and sh1ro. The problem is that all three teams ended up on the same side of the bracket.
That could be very good news for FURIA.
FURIA landed on the opposite side and will begin against Aurora. HLTV described their half of the bracket as considerably more open, giving them a realistic path toward the Grand Final.
MOUZ are another team worth watching after recently winning BLAST Bounty Season 2 by beating Spirit in the final.

What Happened to the EWC Last Chance Qualifier?
The Last Chance Qualifier is now finished.
A total of 64 teams competed in Paris from August 7 to 9 for the final four places in the main tournament.
100 Thieves, BIG, K27 and JiJieHao were the four teams that survived the qualifier and completed the 32 team EWC field.
The qualifier created one of the better underdog stories of EWC, with JiJieHao making it through the LCQ and then upsetting Spirit in the main event before eventually falling short of the playoffs.
EWC 2026 Prize Pool
There is $2 million available in the CS2 tournament alone.
The winner takes home $600,000, while second place receives $340,000 and third place gets $190,000.

When Is the EWC 2026 CS2 Grand Final?
The EWC 2026 CS2 Grand Final takes place on August 23.
The final day is also getting a bigger stage. The Grand Final has been moved to the Accor Arena in Paris, while the earlier stages of the tournament are being played at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles.
The playoffs begin August 19, so there are only a few days left before the 16 remaining teams are cut down to one champion.
Vitality, Falcons and Spirit may have landed in the nightmare half of the bracket, while FURIA received a much cleaner path. But with single elimination from here on out, one bad series is enough to end anyone’s EWC run.
