If you are searching for the cheapest red skins in CS2 to trade up, you want regular Covert skins that can actually be used in a five skin Covert contract.
That second part matters. Some cheap red skins come from collections with no Gold pool, so buying the absolute cheapest Covert you see does not automatically make it useful for a knife or glove trade up.
We checked current marketplace prices on August 24, 2026 and focused on cheap regular Coverts from eligible collections. Prices move constantly, so check live listings again before buying five of anything.
Valve changed the system in October 2025, allowing five regular Covert skins to trade up into a regular knife or gloves from the collections represented by your inputs.

1. AWP Chrome Cannon
The AWP Chrome Cannon Battle Scarred was one of the cheapest eligible regular Coverts we found, with third party listings around $22 to $24 during our check.
It comes from the Kilowatt Collection, which is especially interesting because Kilowatt is connected to the Kukri Knife pool.
That makes Chrome Cannon worth checking if your goal is a cheap knife focused input rather than gloves.

2. AK 47 Head Shot
The AK 47 Head Shot Battle Scarred was sitting around $23 at the low end of the market.
It comes from the Revolution Collection. Revolution is a glove collection, so do not buy five Head Shots expecting a knife.
That distinction is important. Cheap inputs only make sense when you actually want the Gold pool attached to them.

3. AWP Chromatic Aberration
Another cheap option is the AWP Chromatic Aberration Battle Scarred, which was around $24 when we checked.
It comes from the Recoil Collection and is another glove focused input.
It is also heavily traded compared with some older Coverts, which makes finding several copies at similar prices a little easier.

4. M4A4 Temukau
The M4A4 Temukau Battle Scarred was roughly $25 depending on the marketplace.
Like Head Shot, Temukau comes from Revolution, so the Gold pool is gloves.
This can make Revolution useful if gloves are what you want because it has two relatively cheap regular Coverts to shop around for.

5. M4A4 Neo Noir
The M4A4 Neo Noir Battle Scarred was also around $25 during our latest check.
It comes from the Clutch Collection, another collection tied to gloves.
Neo Noir, Temukau and In Living Color can end up extremely close in price, so their order can change from day to day. Do not pay an extra few dollars just because an old guide ranked one above another.

6. M4A4 In Living Color
The M4A4 In Living Color Battle Scarred was another roughly $25 Covert when checked.
It belongs to the Snakebite Collection and leads into a glove pool.

7. M4A4 The Battlestar
Finally, M4A4 The Battlestar Field Tested was available around $25.
This one is more interesting for knife hunters because it comes from the Wildfire Collection, which is connected to the Bowie Knife.
That makes The Battlestar very different from Temukau or In Living Color even though their prices are almost identical.

Which Cheap Red Skin Should You Actually Use?
Do not automatically buy whichever skin is number one today.
Start with the Gold item you actually want, then work backwards to its collection. Chrome Cannon makes more sense if you want Kukri Knives. The Battlestar points toward Bowie Knives. Revolution, Recoil, Clutch and Snakebite inputs are useful when you want their glove pools.
Mixing collections also changes your possible results, so understand the odds before submitting anything.

One Important 2026 Trade Up Change
A lot of older CS2 guides are now wrong about Souvenir skins.
In May 2026, Valve changed Trade Up Contracts so Souvenir quality items can be selected alongside normal quality items. Their Souvenir attributes are removed when used and the result becomes a normal quality item.
So if you are reading trade up advice that simply says Souvenir skins can never be used, it is outdated.
Final Thoughts
Right now, the cheapest useful red skins for Covert trade ups are mostly sitting in the low to mid $20 range.
Chrome Cannon is one of the first skins worth checking for a cheap knife route, while Head Shot, Chromatic Aberration, Temukau, Neo Noir and In Living Color give you cheaper access to different glove pools. The Battlestar is another strong budget knife input because of its Wildfire connection.
Just remember that prices move quickly.
Check the collection first, compare current prices, check your floats and understand every possible outcome before submitting five skins.
